Do you want to charm a Lv 20 Black Moa for your Fellowship monument but haven't completed the quest for it? I'm willing to meet up with folks in game to let them charm it.

Several folks who posted here have confirmed that this does work as described. Each of them got Black Moa statues in their HoM. So it does work!

Details

This is for people who have not taken or have not finished the quest, The Beak of Darkness. If you have already finished that quest, you don't need my help because after finishing the quest, even if you killed the Moa before, a charmable Black Moa will always spawn for you out in Ferndale. I finished the quest years ago, and the bird is out there every time I visit the map now.
This is to charm a Ranger animal companion Black Moa. It's not a minipet!
You need to get to the Kurzick Aspenwood Gate outpost (in the NE corner of Ferndale) on your own. I'm not running/rushing you there.
Post here first please. Include your IGN or guruPM it to me immediately after posting your request if you prefer to keep it private. We'll work out a time to meet up. I don't expect you to ditch in the middle of a battle or outing to meet up with me. Please reciprocate and understand there will be times when I'm busy and can't help just then.
You do not need to be in a Kurzick alliance or have more Kurzick than Luxon faction to do this. You will have had to do enough of the Factions storyline quests/missions (link might have spoilers) to get to House zu Heltzer before you can get to the required Aspenwood Gate outpost.
I do not know if doing this will mess up your ability to complete the moa quest later on! I've never tested to see if charming one before starting the quest glitches it somehow later. Cropheus Lanthos had the quest active in his quest log, at a point where he was supposed to talk to NPCs. The bird still spawned when we went out together, and he was able to charm it. He tells me it became completed after he charmed it on our run.
You do not need to bring heroes or any special build other than having the Ranger skill Charm Animal on your bar.
We will have to fight a few foes to get there, but it shouldn't be anything difficult. (I do not recommend this for characters working on survivor titles! My ranger is extremely fond of visiting res shrines ... they're sparkly!)
If you want one for reasons other than putting in your HoM, that's fine, too. It should still work the same way. Note that in order to put the Moa in your HoM, you'll need a tapestry on that character's Fellowship monument first.
You have to release any existing pet you have first. You can't charm a new pet until you give your existing pet to a tamer NPC. If you don't want to lose your existing pet, you can give it to Emryd in the Zaishen Menagerie Grounds to record for your account. After you've capped the Moa and added it to your HoM, you can return to the Menagerie where Wynn will spawn you a fresh copy of your old pet to re-charm. Note that Wynn will not spawn a Rainbow Phoenix if there are any heroes in your party.
You don't have to pay me anything! For those generous souls who're very keen on giving tips, I ask only that you keep an eye on my shopping list thread. If you plan to sell something like I have on that list, I'd very much appreciate getting first dibs!

Instructions

We team up in Aspenwood Gate (Kurzick side) and go out into Ferndale in NM. It's better if you let me bring heroes and three henchies - that way, you don't have to worry about flagging any AI away to avoid killing the bird while you cap it.
We fight through a couple packs of Dredge and maybe an Oni popup, clearing our way to the Moa. (It's normal mode, and the foes are no match for the hero or hero/hench teams I've been using ... even if we aggro several groups at once. So don't sweat the fights.)
We flag the heroes and henchies away from the Moa, you get in range of it and cast Charm Animal on it. When done, you have a level 20 Black Moa pet.
You go to your Hall of Monuments, still with Charm Animal on your bar, and add the Black Moa to your Fellowship monument.
It glitches for some people and won't immediately go into the monument. Most of the folks I've helped had no trouble, but an1sh's moa wouldn't go in when he first tried. He found the work around though! Below are his instructions for how to get around the glitch.
- Take the Black Moa to the Zaishen Menagerie and show it to Emryd the Tamer, who will record it and add it to your collection. Release the bird to Emryd.
- Now there will be level 5 charmable Black Moas on the grounds. Head east, up and around to the cave and charm a level 5 black Moa. There's a map of where to go for each kind of pet on wiki's article about the menagerie.
- Take the level 5 Black Moa back to Emryd and release it. Now Wynn should spawn you level 20 versions in the training ring. Charm one of those, and return to your HoM. This new one should go into your Fellowship monument just fine.
- +1 internet point to an1sh for finding this glitch and coming up with the work-around here!

edit: wonderful i really owe Luny for not only aiding me by providing the quest, but also providing me with skills necessary to tone down my animal fighting instincts in order to capture (not fight) this extraordinary animal.
